So, what is Learning at Work Week? It is an initiative run by the Campaign for Learning and aims to put the spotlight on the importance and continual benefits of learning and development within the work place. This year the theme is ‘Shaping the Future’ and our Apprentices and Graduates are a big part of Capgemini’s future.

Learning at work doesn’t just cover the day job but it’s all the added activities such as courses and volunteering that help you develop as an individual. I’ve attended several courses that have helped me build up both my technical and soft skills, but as well as that I have been involved in a variety of internal projects such as being part of the SAP Social Media team and volunteering activities such as my work with Urban Synergy, which has helped me build a whole host of skills that I have been able to apply to my project work. These activities have enabled me to work with a whole host of people and has made my time at Capgemini really fun and interesting.

Akash Nayee, Insights and Data practice: “I feel learning and development is vital within the workplace for both the individual to progress themselves up the career ladder as well as being able to better cater ourselves to clients. Personally, my favourite type of learning is being thrown into the deep end on client’s site but with the necessary support around you to help develop and perfect your skillset. Having recently graduated from the Apprentice Programme I am certainly used to balancing workloads and this has proved useful when on client site.”
Witek Lubicz-Sienicki, Oracle practice: “I am currently enrolled on the Degree Apprenticeship scheme, due to finish in mid-2020. Before I started my apprenticeship in April 2016, I knew I was passionate about finance, technology and business – I joined the Oracle ERP team allowing me to do exactly that! Every day is different and a new learning opportunity to expand my knowledge, skills and stay current with market demands. The degree aspect allows me to implement theory into practice and vice versa. What I enjoy most is the not knowing about what’s next! We respond to market demands and this means one day I could be implementing Oracle ERP Finance in London but in a few months’ time I could be working with a different client on a software implementation somewhere in Europe!”
Anthony Watters, SAP practice: “Since joining Capgemini, I’ve undertaken dozens of training courses and learning activities. I joined as a graduate, meaning the structured graduate training plan was presented to me on my first day. My favourite learning experience to date was getting the opportunity to go to India for 5 weeks at the end of March 2019. I spent 4 weeks learning a new role that I had expressed interest in learning, followed by 1 week working alongside senior professionals in our Mumbai office who perform this role on a daily basis. Not only did I get to learn a vast amount of technical knowledge, but I also learned about different cultures. I worked closely with Indian colleagues, as well as with fellow graduates from the UK, Germany, Belgium and the US who were also attending the 5-week training course.”
