Heathrow renews contract with Capgemini, continuing the success of a decade long relationship

Having worked with Heathrow for over a decade, I was keen to understand more about how our relationship has developed over the years and the work we do. I met with Capgemini Account Director, Steve Baldwin and Carl Baiden who is Heathrow’s Head of Technology Service Delivery. In our discussion, I learnt that earlier this year, Capgemini was awarded a 3-year extension to its existing contract for applications and infrastructure support of Heathrow’s technology estate, originally awarded to Capgemini in 2018.

To begin with, I asked Steve how, as partners, are we making a difference to Heathrow. Steve explained that as part of their ongoing journey to improve the overall experience for travelers, Heathrow’s IT team is continuously transforming the delivery model that supports its ever-evolving needs.

The recent contract extension awarded to Capgemini further builds upon our existing services and helps respond to the growing need for innovation and continuous improvement to deliver operational efficiencies, enable optimised economics and greater agility. This renewal will also see our global teams continuing to support Heathrow’s digital transformation agenda by delivering further automation and efficiencies from complex airport operational systems to next-gen cloud technologies.

Talking about our relationship with Heathrow, Steve explained that over the years we have built an intimate knowledge of the airport and in continuing our work with Heathrow, we can further drive the required efficiencies whilst we continue to strengthen our existing relationship.

‘I am delighted that we will continue working with and providing Heathrow with some of the core foundations needed to support their future technology agenda. Having worked with Heathrow for several years now, this contract renewal is proof of the strong partnership ethos and highly collaborative relationship that we have with both Heathrow and the other suppliers that make ‘Team Heathrow’.

I was keen to ask Carl how it has been to work with Capgemini for over a decade now and how the relationship has evolved, he said  At Heathrow, we have continuously invested in spending time with Capgemini colleagues, both on and off-shore to bring them closer to the airport environment.  Working together as one team is a testament to the strong collaborative spirit that has been built over the past ten years and was a factor in our continuing partnership.  Being part of ‘Team Heathrow’, Capgemini has helped us introduce cost efficiencies and implement innovations in our operations.’
